Smaller Worlds

An interactive dementia story piece in collaboration with artist Paul Wright, via Digital Futures.

The environment is a digital interpretation of a portrait of Paul's mother named 'Smaller Worlds' - which was selected for the National Gallery Portrait Award in 2025.

For this project, I handled shader-work, lighting and core systems programming. As well as other stuff, such as story boarding, general stakeholder comms and scene dressing.

Every brush stroke you can see was painted by Paul, digitally scanned and imposed onto the 3D models. Coupled with lighting systems I wrote specifically for the painterly style, we had a unique style going, even before we had the narrative together.
